  This two hour orientation class is traditionally given in a hands on laboratory setting with an instructor, but the demonstrated resources are available here for you to reference whenever you need them.

  What is KPScholar, and how does it work with Moodle and Drupal?
  
  The short answer is that Moodle and Drupal are a learning management system (LMS) and content management system (CMS) respectively.

  Logging in and Creating an Account in KPScholar.

    Before you start the very first thing you need to do is create yourself an account and password. You will need access to your email to receive the password. You can change your information at any time by clicking on the "My Account" tab in Drupal.

  Creating A Class

  • 
    One of the first things that you are going to want to do is create a new course. This is the standard module or unit of instruction in KPScholar.
    
    A new course can only created by two types of users: 1) course creators, and 2) administrators. If you are not yet a course creator, please call your admin to have these permissions assigned to you.

  Navigating in the Learning Management System

    The Moodle learning management system is essentially a collection of tools and resources designed to create a virtual learning environment. Learning to navigate in this environment and the graphical user interface is essential to successfully manage online classes.

  Adding Students to Classes and Assigning Roles

    There are multiple roles that a user in Moodle can have. Teachers, students and administrators can all perform basic actions, however teachers and administrators and teachers can do significantly more things. Before you continue, make sure that you understand how to add users to your class and assign them to a role.

  Uploading Instructional Materials

    You have access to your own personal database of materials for each class. This database is located on the Moodle server and you can upload, download, backup and organize this in any fashion you wish. Generally speaking each class is allotted about 1GB of server space. As a school or department we can increase this amount if needed.
    
    Instead of reloading the same documents for multiple classes, if you know that you will be reusing documents, try setting up a department document area that can become a single shared repository for all the instructors.

  Creating Assignment Submission Areas

    The primary difference between a static web page (web 1.0) and dynamic web pages (web 2.0) is the inclusion of user generated content. In the next two topics areas you will learn to make the most use of user generated content. First, we will discuss how students can upload their own materials privately for the instructor to view. This is used primarily for students submitting homework, but it can also be used to help groups privately collaborating on a project.

  Creating A Discussion Forum

    The second feature that lets users contribute their content to a learning management system is the forum feature. Forums are discussion areas that can be searched and linked to submitted documents. You can set permissions so that only certain individuals, groups, or whole classes can participate. In this way very robust online discussions and learning environments can be facilitated.
