The course aims to provide foundational knowledge of evidence-based practice for working with survivors of trauma. Students will develop awareness through a systems and relational lens of the presentation and impact of trauma and disaster experiences for individuals, families, and communities. Students will focus on acquiring practical skills in assessment, case conceptualization, community support, and intervention with clients with trauma. The course will examine current evidence-based practices for the treatment trauma as well as current models for understanding the impact and course of trauma related disorders. Finally, the course will survey strength-based approaching in conceptualizing trauma including: person-first, person-centered, and strength-based approaches to treatment, rehabilitation, and support.
